Gastroenterology conditions
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all conditions for outpatient services and does not exclude consideration for referral unless specifically stipulated in the gastroenterology exclusions section.

- Altered Bowel Habits (Constipation and Diarrhoea)
- Coeliac Disease
- Colorectal Cancer Screening
- Dysphagia (Swallowing Issues) - Gastroenterology
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Iron Deficiency with or without Anaemia
- Overt Rectal Bleeding - Gastroenterology
- Reflux Disease, Heartburn and Indigestion
Out of scope
Not all medical conditions are covered by the CPC, as certain conditions may be considered out of scope or managed by other specialist services:
- nil
Exclusions for public specialist outpatient services
Not all gastroenterology conditions are appropriate for referral into the South Australian public health system. The following are not routinely provided in a public specialist outpatient service:
- stable reflux disease controlled with proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy
- coeliac disease where gluten free diet is not followed
- inappropriately performed immunological faecal occult blood testing (iFOBT), faecal human haemoglobin (FHH) or faecal immunochemical test (FIT)
- functional gastrointestinal disease such as irritable bowel syndrome where there are no red flags and primary care options have not been adequately trialled
- second opinions for conditions already seen by the same specialty.
