The Statewide Eating Disorder Service (SEDS) is here to help people with an eating disorder and their families to find the right care and support at the right time.

SEDS is a specialised mental health service for all South Australians. We provide assessment, care and information for people living with an eating disorder, or where an eating disorder may be developing. We can help professionals, family and carers looking after people with an eating disorder and provide quality assured evidence based care, education, training, professional liaison and carer support.

The SEDS Inpatient Program is located at Ward 4GP, Flinders Medical Centre. The SEDS Day Patient Program and Outpatient Clinical Team is located in Brighton.

Our focus is caring for people with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and other specified feeding or eating disorders.

Our team

SEDS has a skilled multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, dieticians, occupational therapists, social workers and specialist mental health nurses.

For children and adolescents

In the care of children and adolescents, we work collaboratively with the specialist Paediatric Eating Disorders teams at the Women's and Children's Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre to ensure patients and families receive best practice Medical care during assessment and treatment.

Mental Health care and treatment is provided through SEDS and the specialist eating disorder team at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

A comprehensive model of care is shared between all these services which brings together all the available experience and expertise in SA Public Health to ensure a consistently high standard of care and treatment to patients and their carers who may be experiencing an eating disorder regardless of where they access services.

Assessment and treatment

Members of the multidisciplinary team use their expertise and experience to formulate a careful diagnosis. Treatment recommendations and plans of care are then tailored to the individual's needs.

All treatments recommended and used have been widely researched and demonstrated to be effective.
